Film by Kim Inchul |
Best known for her monumentally scaled site-specific projects, artist Jinnie Seo (b.1963) explores the interrelationship between movement and presence through drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation. Employing diverse materials and techniques, she seeks to produce the conditions of conscious encounter between subject, object, time, and space, opening up the present moment to multiple perspectives. Her meticulous creations are poetic, inviting, and full of wonder.
Jinnie Seo received her BA in biology and MFA in painting from New York University in 1986 and 1992, respectively. She also studied at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine in 1990.
Seo currently lives and works in Seoul. Her work has been exhibited most recently by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Deoksugung Palace, 2021), Gallery Baton (2020), and Genesis Studio (Hanam, 2020).
